Joann McClain

Resident of Dahlonega

Mrs. Joann McClain, age 70, of Dahlonega, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming.

Joann was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Dahlonega Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Joann was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Rider and a brother, Ray Rider.

She is survived by her husband, James McClain, Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Chris Dyer, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kaye McClain, Dahlonega; mother, Pauline Rider, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Blake Sargent, Brittany McClain, and Riley Dyer. A large number of other relatives also survive.

A short service was held at Banister Funeral home on Tusday, November 19, with Phil Donehoo officiating. It was followed by a private interment at Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at United Community Bank to the world wide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses who distribute Bibles free in over 110 languages in 235 lands.

Bobbie Nell Underwood Sosebee

Resident of Dahlonega

Bobbie Nell Underwood Sosebee, 77, of Talmo, died in her home on Monday, November 11, 2013.

She was born June 19, 1936, in Pendergrass, Georgia, the daughter of Rufus Underwood and Beatrice Bryant Underwood Pethel. On October 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to Billy Jackson Sosebee, Sr. in Walhalla, South Carolina. Bobbie was the owner and operator of Sosebee’s Flower Shop in Oakwood, Georgia for 10 years and worked as a florist for many years following.

She is survived by her husband Billy Sosebee of Talmo; two children, Jackie Cooper of Jefferson and B.J. Sosebee of Talmo; six grandchildren, Lew Puckett, Scott Puckett, Beth Cooper, Johnathan Cooper, Katie Sosebee, and J.T. Sosebee; six great grandchildren, Nathan Puckett, Emily Puckett, Gracie Puckett, Lauren McMillan, Kristin McMillan and David Guthrie; and two brothers, Harold Underwood of Talmo and Freddie Pethel of Jefferson.

She was preceded in death by her father Rufus Underwood and mother Beatrice Bryant Underwood Pethel, stepfather Fred Pethel, daughter Debbie Puckett, sisters Kate Heberlen and Willene Waters and brothers Sam Underwood and David Underwood.

Funeral services were held November 13 at Talmo Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Spence and Rev. Charles Jenkins officiating. Those wishing to make online condolences may do so at www.littledavenport.com

Cecil Ed ‘Lightning’ Haynes

Resident of Dahlonega

Mr. Cecil Ed “Lightning” Haynes, age 85, of Dahlonega, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega.

Mr. Haynes was a Hall County native who had lived in Lumpkin County for many years. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Dewberry Baptist Church in Hall County.

He was the son of the late John Milton Haynes and Vina Self Haynes and was also preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Ferguson Haynes; stepson, Ronnie Ferguson; several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Nanette and Lamar Funderburk, Dahlonega, Carol Lee Haynes, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Michelle Lance. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Haynes were held November 15, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Jeff Graham officiated.

Interment followed in the Dewberry Baptist Church Cemetery in Hall County.

Resident of Dahlonega

Annie Alinda Chambers Christian, age 57, of Dahlonega, Ga. died Friday, January 17, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. following an extended illness.

Annie was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church in White County.

Annie had a strong faith in God and loved to help and take care of others.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Nell Gearin Chambers.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Christian, Dahlonega, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Carolyn Chambers, Dahlonega, Ga.; father, R.B. Chambers, Dahlonega, Ga.; brother, Roger Chambers, Dawsonville, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Johnny Chester, Dawsonville, Ga.; granddaughter, Kadence Davis; niece, Lisa Chester; nephew, Stacy and Teresa Chester and family. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Annie were held January 20, 2014 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in White County. Rev. Joe Vernon and Rev. Edward Chambers officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
