Burt Thomas Lancaster Sr.

Burt Thomas Lancaster Sr., age 59, of Monroe, Ga. died on December 14, 2012. He was born on Aug. 8, 1953 in Pittsburg, Pa. to the late Charles Lancaster and the late Cecilia Wilkerson Lancaster.

Surviving are: his wife, Julia Lancaster of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law Angela L. and Timothy Johnson of Loganville; sons and daughters-in-law Burt T. and Lindsey Lancaster Jr. of Monroe, Christopher S. and Jennifer Lancaster of Dahlonega; sister, Joanne Clemmons of Colorado; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Robin Lancaster of Pittsburg; grandchildren Jordan, Jacob, Hannah, Jedidiah, Abigail, Lily, Matthew, Amelia, Julia and Sarah Kate.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Hold officiating.

Edna Mae Merck

Edna Mae Merck, age 83, of Dawsonville, (Lumpkin County) died peacefully on Tuesday, December, 12, 2012 with her children at her side.

Ms. Merck was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was a member of the Auraria Church of the Almighty God in Lumpkin County and also attended Zion Hill Baptist Church in Forsyth County. She was a homemaker and avid gardener.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children Marcus Merck; mother, Nell Black Adams; brothers, John Henry and Buck Black; sisters, Vernell Black and Claudean Adams.

She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, James and Mylinda Merck, Cumming, Ga., Freddie Merck, Murrayville, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Delores “Bebe” and Van Jones, Judy Christiansen, Robbie and Ronald Gentry, all of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and LaRue Adams, Dawsonville; sisters and brother-in-law, Edith Lance, Dahlonega, Ruby and George McKinzey, Murrayville; Bessie English, Dawsonville. Sixteen grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services were held December 15, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Pastor Corey Ray and Pastor Gary Coffey officiated.

Interment followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega.

Dorris Jean Abee

Dorris Jean Abee,age 84, of Cleveland passed away Sunday December 16, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Ms. Abee was born in Dahlonega, the daughter of the late Fred Monroe Abee Sr. and Emma Lou Barrett Abee. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Abee, Charles Abee and Fred Monroe Abee Jr. Ms. Abee was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sisters, Iola Daniel, Sandy Springs, Bobbie Miller, Cleveland, Christine White, Cornelia, Bonnell Robinson, Cleveland; brothers, Morris Abee, Auburn, Calif., Christopher Abee, Canton, Ga., James Eli Abee, Fla., George Abee, Dawsonville, Herbert Abee, Dahlonega; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday December 19, 2012 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate.

Cora Mae Poore

Mrs. Cora Mae Poore, 79 of Dahlonega, was called home while surrounded by her family on December 12, 2012.

Mrs. Poore is survived by her children; Robbie and (Rick) Goode of Dawsonville; Brenda and (Ernest) Dunn of Dahlonega; Ann and (Ronnie) Fields of Dahlonega; Dorris and (Ronnie) Woody of Suches.

Mrs. Poore is also survived by two brothers and four sisters: Mr. Dean Rice, Mr. Bobby Rice, Mrs. Betty Cain, Ms. Sally Robinson, Ms. Nancy Scroggins, and Ms. Judy Hester. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Anthony Pruitt, Bryan Wilson, Lacy Garrett, Christopher Taylor, Brandon Dunn, Samantha Woody, and Andrew Woody; as well as three great-grandchildren, Caleb Wilson, Matthew Wilson, and Ella White. Mrs. Poore is also survived by a previous spouse, Mr. Harold Poore of Dawsonville.

Efford M. Bruce

Mr. Efford M. Bruce, age 69, of Dahlonega, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his residence following a two year battle with ALS.

Efford was a native of Dawson County who had lived in Dahlonega for the past 33 years. He was a retired D.A. Guard at Camp Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega. He was a member of Set Free Church in Dahlonega. Efford was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.

Efford was the son of the late Len Howard Bruce and Grace Anderson Bruce and was also preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Bruce and Jimmy Bruce; and sister, Mary Boggs.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Davis Bruce, Dahlonega; daughter, Melanie Jackson, Dahlonega; sisters, Elda Gee and Kathy Anderson, both of Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren, Ryan Gee and T.J. Bruce. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held December 15, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Marty Dunkerly and Rev. Scott McQueen officiated.

Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, Ga. with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

Margarita Munoz

Margarita Munoz, age 78, of Gainesville, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Neil Dhabliwala officiated.

Mrs. Munoz was born June 8, 1934 in Penuela, Puerto Rico to the late Nepomuzeno Quinonez and Cristina Torres Quinonez. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith. Margarita was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. She was a wonderful wife, mother and sister and will be greatly missed by all.

Mrs. Munoz is survived by her husband, Fernando Luis Munoz of Puerto Rico; daughters, Iris Silva of New Britain, Connecticut, Juanita Ruiz of New Britain, Connecticut, Judy Nunez of New Britain, Connecticut, Daisy Huggins of Gainesville, Christine Nunez of Dahlonega and Nancy Gonzalez of New Britain, Connecticut; sons, Fernando Luis Gonzalez of Bristol, Connecticut and Gregory Robles of New Britain, Connecticut; 24 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Corine Cagle Wimpy, age 81, of Dahlonega, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Wimpy was born in College Park, Ga. November 4, 1931. She was retired from Bell South.

Corine was the daughter of the late Bernis Montgomery Cagle and Dessa Iduma Dailey Cagle and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Carlton Wimpy.

She is survived by her son, Floyd Wimpy, of Dahlonega; granddaughters, Danielle Nicole Wimpy and Brooklyn Paige Wimpy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wimpy were held December 7, 2012 at Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Roger Dunagan officiated.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.
