Woodrow Parks

Woodrow Parks, age 99, passed away July 2, 2012. Mr. Parks is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Garrett Parks; parents Harvey Frank and Sallie Green Parks; sisters, Mary Lou Chester, Idell Kendall, Bessie Trammell, Bonnie Lou Heap; brothers; I.H. Parks, Robert Lee Parks.

He is survived by his sister Verdelle Brackett of Dahlonega and also by several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Woodrow was born in Lumpkin County and lived most of his life in Dahlonega. He was the great-grandson of the late Benjamin Parks who first discovered gold in Dahlonega. He worked in the family’s general store, beginning at the age of fourteen delivering groceries. He proudly served in the Army Air Force for more than three years, being honorably discharged in March 1945. He served as a supply Sergeant, 325th Fighter Group “Checkertail Clan,” in North Africa, France and Italy and, among his commendations were five Bronze Stars. He returned home in 1945 and joined his father and mother in the family business and opened the Parks Clothing store in late 1945. For a number of years he also owned a clothing store in Ellijay. He continued to own the Dahlonega store and was in the store as often as possible up until a few weeks before his death. He was a natural at sales and visiting with people, whether customers or not, and made friends very easily. He was a life-long Christian and member of the Dahlonega Baptist Church and a believer in, and supporter of, Dahlonega and North Georgia. He loved Christian, Gospel and Bluegrass music and on most Saturdays you could find him on the Dahlonega square listening to the Appalachian music jam.

The funeral was held at the Dahlonega Baptist Church, July 6. Interment followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega.

Martha Hewlette Moseley

Mrs. Martha Hewlette Moseley, age 90, of Dawsonville, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at The Bridge in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Mrs. Moseley was born in LaGuardo, Tenn. June 4, 1922. She had lived in Lumpkin County since 2001 and was a former longtime resident of Decatur, Ga. She was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church. She had a 30 year teaching career and retired from the Dekalb County Board of Education.

Martha was the daughter of the late Lee Burton and Lillie Prowell Burton and was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Gwen Moseley; sisters, Lillian Turner, Rilla Reeves, and brother, Willie B. Burton.

She is survived by her son, Bob Moseley, Tucker, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law; Julia and Nubbin Garner, Dawsonville; Candy and Bill Evans, Lawrenceville; Lisa and Billy Walker, Lawrenceville; sister, Jessie Wingfield, Trion, Ga.; grandchildren, Mary and Clay Moseley, Henry and Ben Garner, Annabeth Evans, Caroline and Jillian Walker.

Funeral services for Mrs. Moseley were held July 6, 2012, at Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Rev. Bill Hutcheson officiated.

Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Jean Ann Martin

Jean Ann Martin, age 63, of Dahlonega, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012. She was a member of Bethelview United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Steve Martin of Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracie Guthrie (Todd Mullinax) of Cumming, Carman (Scott) Mathis of Clermont; grandchildren, Joshua Martin, Kenna and Kylee Mathis; great-grandchild, Brindon Grindle and other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Orr officiating. Entombment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.

J.C. Lee

Mr. J.C. Lee, age 84, of Dahlonega, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Lee was a Hall County native who had lived in Lumpkin County for many years. He was retired from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and was of the Pentecostal faith.

J.C. was the son of the late Claude Lee and Maude Wigley Lee and was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Lee; and a sister, Blonnie Gaye Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Lee; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee, Lavonia, Ga., Gary Lee, Dahlonega, and Greg and Lydia Lee, Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dwight Griffin, Dahlonega; brothers, Lewis Lee, Murrayville, and Larry B. Lee, Gainesville, Ga. Six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Lee are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Carroll Pruitt will officiate.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Hall County.

Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Ann Brown, age 69, of Dawsonville, died July 2, 2012.
