Eugene Gilreath

Mr. Eugene Gilreath, age 77, of State Highway 60, Suches passed away on Saturday, Febuary 11, 2012 at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Gilreath was born on July 18, 1934 in Suches, the son of the late Joseph Hershel Gilreath and the late Murphy Shope Gilreath and was the youngest of ten children.

Eugene had worked several years for Republic Steel in Canton, Ohio. He then went to Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta where he worked for ten years. After moving back to Suches in the mid ’60s he worked for the State Highway Department for a short period of time. He then went to North Georgia College where he spent almost twenty years before retiring in 1995.

“Gene,” as he was called, loved his family, his home, his church friends and he loved animals, and his 1960 John Deer Tractor, working in his beautiful yard, being at home and most of all spending time with his family. He was the last of the ten children and was preceded in death by seven brothers, Hershel, Russell, Ralph, Joe, Rufus, Hubert and Gus Gilreath, two sisters, Birtee Gilreath and Lois Grizzle. Eugene was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Gilreath are his loving wife of 56 years, Annie Faye Vandiver Gilreath of Suches, two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Danny Jarrard of Dahlonega and Glenda and Larry Carlson of Dahlonega. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Charles Abernathy and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Larry Carlson, Danny Jarrard, Robert Bridges, Jordan Pickelsimer, Terry Pickelsimer and Benny Brookshire. Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Lillie ”Nana” Wimpy

Mrs. Lillie ”Nana” Wimpy, age 89, of Hapeville, Ga., died February 9, 2012.

Lillie was born in Dahlonega and was a homemaker.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie Ridley and Victoria Grizzle Ridley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Wimpy; daughter, Peggy Wimpy White; sister, Dessie Bell Lunsford; brothers, Ralph Ridley and Charlie Ridley; brother-in-law, Carlton Wimpy.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Wendy Holmes, Hapeville, Ga., Tiffany White Collier and husband Conan Collier, Riverdale, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Michael Holmes, Aston Collier and Destiny Collier; great-great-grandchildren, James Holmes and Joseph Holmes; sister, Pearl Tucker, Dahlonega; brothers-in-law, R.F. Wimpy and James Allen Head, both of Dahlonega; special family members, Jacky Fortner, Phillis Cook, and Mike Reyneke.

Funeral services were held February 11, 2012 at Concord Baptist Church in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Interment followed in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ida Price

Mrs. Ida Price, age 66, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at her home.

Ida was born in Lumpkin County May 10, 1945 and had lived most of her life in Lumpkin County. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Price was the daughter of the late Walter McClure and Delsey Goss McClure. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Joyce Young and Joan Dodd; and brother, Clarence McClure.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Odes Price, Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Effie Price and Nicky Bruce, Dahlonega, Elaine and Melvin Jarrett, Epworth, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Charlotte Price, Michael and Melinda Price, Walter and Teresa Price, all of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Nichole Price, Jordan Dover, Christopher Price, Anthony and Pamela Ingram, Joshua and Julie Jarrett, Jessica and Lionel Johnson, Jennifer and Jasemine Jarrett, William and Chasity Price, Niki Bruce, and Angel Evans; great-grandchildren, Ethan Price, Dylan Cochran, Nathan and Aiden Ingram, and Noah Johnson; sisters, Minnie Landers, Gainesville, Ga., Ruthie Green, Gainesville, Ga., Jannie Marchbanks, Cleveland, Ga., Gladies Tullis, Landrum, S.C., Nancy Hamilton, Cleveland, Ga., and Helen Smith, Clermont, Ga.; brothers, Junior McClure, Dahlonega, Willie McClure, Cleveland, Ga., William McClure, Gainesville, Ga., Johnny McClure, Dalton, Ga., Wayne McClure, Cleveland, Ga. and Gary McClure, Cleveland, GA. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Price were held Feb. 7, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Charles Grant officiated.

Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Marvine Rider

Marvine Rider, age 65, a resident of Bogart, Ga., died February 3, 2012.

She was born in Dahlonega, and was an Honors graduate of Lumpkin County High School in 1964. She attended North Georgia College and later transfered to the University of Georgia, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in 1968 and 1970.

She taught high school in Buford, Ga. from 1970-73. She then moved to Bowling Green, Ky. and completed her Master of Science in Education. She served as the coordinator of orientation for new students at Western Kentucky University from 1973-78. She then moved to the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, and was employed for two years at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, then for 23 years at the Library of Congress, retiring in March, 2005.

She was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens, Ga. She was predeceased by her parents, Guy and Reba Bryant Rider.

She is survived by sisters Arlean Barrett of Dahlonega and Verba Jean Gilreath of Athens, Ga.; brother, Larry Rider of Winder; niece Joan Barrett Greenwalt of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews Stephen, Sean and C.J. Rider, all of Winder.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at Smith Funeral Home in Winder. Rev. A.B. Sawyer and Rev. Johnny Wright officiated. Interment was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.

Sue Allison

Sue Allison, age 75, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Allison was born May 11, 1936 in Hall County to the late William Buck and Nelle Jarrard Jackson. She was a homemaker, a member of Welcome Worship Center and attended Community Chapel. She was a loving mother of 13 children. Mrs. Allison was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles F. Allison and sister Martha June Jackson.

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Dorsey, Cleveland, Amy Allison, Cleveland, Wynell Windham, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Melvin Turner, Dahlonega; Carolann and Dean Justus, Gainesville; Rebekah and Charles W. Allison, Cleveland; Brenda and Darrell Harkins, Cleveland; Rhonda and Jere Kimbrell, Sautee; Stephanie and Trey Baker, Cleveland; Amanda and Marty Garrett, Cleveland; son, Joel Allison, Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Jane Ann Allison, Cleveland; Jeff and Darla Allison, Cleveland; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Judy Jackson, Dahlonega; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Aubrey Westmoreland, Sautee; sister Carolyn Moose, Dahlonega; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Audrey and Jack Davis, Cleveland; Marvin and Elena Allison, Cleveland; sister-in-law, Agnes Jarrard, Dahlonega; 35 grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack Enloe, the Rev. Milton Martin Jr. and the Rev. Jimmy Peck will officiate. Interment will follow in Welcome Worship Center Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donald D. “Don” Moose

Donald D. “Don” Moose, age 61, of Dahlonega, died July 29, 2012.

Don was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was as a retired construction worker and also worked several years at the Lumpkin County Senior Center. Don was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.

Don was the son of the late James Moose and Eva Barrett Robinson and was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Ed Robinson.

Don is survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Linda and Robert Cane, and Sherry Robinson, all of Dahlonega; brothers and sister-in-law, Curtis and Linda Moose, Murrayville, Gary Robinson and Greg Robinson, both of Dahlonega. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Mr. Moose was cremated.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Following the memorial service there will be a graveside service for the burial of the cremains at Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Wednesday, August from 5-9 p.m.

Rhonda B. Chapman

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mrs. Rhonda B. Chapman, age 96 of Murrayville. Mrs. Chapman passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.

Funeral services were held July 28, 2012 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Gerrells, Rev. Roger Dunagan, Rev. Les Fuller, and Rev. Phillip Robinson officiating. Interment immediately followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Chapman was born August 5, 1915 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Fred and Flora West. She was raised in the Shoal Creek community of White County, and she retained a life-long love for the area even after moving to Lumpkin County with her husband. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved cooking for her family and visiting with friends. One of her greatest pleasures was taking frequent rides through White County particularly the Shoal Creek area. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years James Chapman; daughter Patricia Chapman Dunagan; brothers Chester and Lester West, and sisters Willa Nell Gilleland and Hazel Carder.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jimmie Sue and John Gerrells; son-in-law and wife Roger and Judy Dunagan; grandchildren Troy and Sharon Dunagan, Sandi and Eddie Lovell, Stephen and Kristi Gerrells and Nathan Gerrells; great grandchildren Craig and Kyle Lovell; Kalie, Zachary, and Hannah Gerrells; Clarissa and Maggie Reece Dunagan; sister-in-law Myrtle West; her beloved caregiver Connie Couch as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Chance Brownfield Stringer

Chance Brownfield Stringer, age 3, of 204 Seabury Drive, Greenville, S.C. died Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

Born in Richmond, Va., he is the son of Cory Henry and Marian Brownfield Stringer.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his twin brother, Connor Henry Stringer and brother, Caden Augustus Stringer; paternal grandparents, Bruce Henry Stringer and Jewell Dillard Stringer of Murrayville, Ga.; and maternal grandparents, Marcia Torovsky Brownfield and Albert Ray Brownfield of Quicksburg, Va.

Joyce Ann Littlefield

Joyce Ann Littlefield, age 74, of Calhoun, Ga., died Sunday, July 29, 2012.

She was born May 31, 1938 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Leon and Pauline Seritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert Littlefield, brother Walter Seritt, sisters Geneva Dowdy and Imogene and her husband, James Ramey.

Mrs. Littlefiled is survived by children Christina and her husband Edward McHugh of Louisville, Ky; Leanne Stennett of Calhoun, Stacey Littlefield of Calhoun and Robin Littlefield of Nashville, Tenn.

ennell (Wynell) Bedsole Dunn

Mrs. Wennell (Wynell) Bedsole Dunn passed away July 25, 2012 at the age of 79 at Gold City Nursing Home in Dahlonega. A memorial service was held July 28, 2012 at the home of daughter Angelia Wilson. She was laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Garden in Forest Park, Ga.
