Terry Wayne Chandler

Mr. Terry Wayne Chandler, age 50, of Dahlonega, died Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Terry was born May 27, 1962 in Montgomery, Ala.. He had lived in Dahlonega for the past six years and was a former resident of Auburn, Ala.. He was employed at Camp Frank D. Merrill and was a member of Dahlonega United Methodist Church. He was a devoted Dad and served his community through Side by Side Ministries.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy S. Blackwell Chandler.

He is survived by his daughter, Raini Joy Chandler, Dahlonega; father and stepmother, Joe and Jewel Chandler, Flomaton, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Melanie Chandler, North Port, Ala.; sister, Tonya Brewer, Jay, Fla.. Four nieces, one nephew, and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Dahlonega United Methodist Church.

Dr. Jeff Ross officiated.

Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Evelyn Patterson

Mrs. Evelyn Patterson, age 80, of Dahlonega, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at her home.

Mrs. Patterson was born in Jackson County, Ga. October 2, 1932 and lived most of her life in Lumpkin County. She was retired from the Burlington Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega and was a member of Yahoola Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

She was the daughter of the late George Patton and Dovie Hunsinger Patton and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon Anderson; sisters, Myrtle Bray, Kate Walker, Emma Leen Fowler, Ruby Walker, and Sadie Ann Mathis; brothers, William Harold Patton and Glen Ellis Patton.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Rufus Patterson; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Lera Anderson; sister, Mary Seabolt; brother, J.P. Patton, all of Dahlonega; granddaughter, Brandy Osborne and her husband, Jared. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Patterson were held Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Yahoola Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Terry Head and Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Christopher Samuel Sharp

Christopher Samuel Sharp passed away on November 16 at the age of 83. A resident of Venice, Florida since 2001, Christopher passed away at home after a brief illness.

He was born in North Augusta, S.C. in 1929, the third child of Charles and Mabel Sharpe. He grew up in the North Augusta area along with his three brothers David, Joseph, and Jim Sharpe and two sisters Vera and Mary Sharpe. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Army, and following his discharge attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. During his undergraduate years he was elected president of the Wofford College student body. He graduated with a degree in Biology. While attending Wofford he met and married Hazel Henegar. They would spend nearly forty years together until her passing in 1991.

Building on his academic credentials, he obtained a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. Christopher’s professional career started as a high school science professor. He progressed from there to be named the first Chancellor of the University of South Carolina branch located in Aiken, S.C. After successfully getting the branch started, he left the education field to become a Methodist minister.

Deciding that the ministry was not his true calling, Christopher returned to academia and matriculated at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. where he obtained his doctorate in Education. Upon graduation, he accepted the position of Dean at Lander College in Greenwood, South Carolina. A few years later, he left to become the Director of Graduate Studies at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga. His final post in academia was as Head of the Education Department at North Georgia University in Dahlonega. While at North Georgia he grew the Education department dramatically and pioneered the process of off-campus studies. He retired from North Georgia in 1986.

In the years following his retirement, his wife Hazel passed away. Several years later he married Diane Roper. After many blissful years of living in the mountains of Dahlonega, Ga., they moved to a wonderful neighborhood in Venice, Florida. They were married for 17 happy years.

Christopher was an avid golfer, loved Biblical history, and taught Bible studies. He loved the Lord and lived his life as a testament to that.

Christopher is survived by his wife Diane; his children Stephen (Carolyn) and Sandra (Gary) Blohm; grandchildren Melissa (Robert), Christopher, Kathleen, and David; great grandchildren Connor, Jackson, and Sawyer. From his marriage to Diane he is survived by step children Lauren, Scott, Vanessa and Robb and step grandchildren Nicholas, Hunter, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his sister Vera Bell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto in Venice, Fla. 34285.

Dr. Sharp will be laid to rest in Sarasota National Cemetery with U.S. Army honors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 20. A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. also on Tuesday, November 20 at Venice Presbyterian Church.

Eddie Lee Martin

Eddie Lee Martin, age 73 of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Mr. Martin was born March 19, 1939 in Dahlonega to the late Zed and Floye Elizabeth Byers Martin. He was a diesel mechanic and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his brother David Martin.

Survivors include his daughter, Wendy McIntyre, Galveston, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and David Tomlin, Cleveland, Sheila and Buddy Neal, Bradenton, Fla., Gail and Robert Allums, Cleveland; grandchildren, Lee and Kendra McIntyre, Sam and Alia McIntyre, Matthew Allums, A.J. Tomlin, Dani Neal, Brodey Neal; great-grandchildren, Jayden McIntyre, Emmalee McIntyre; sister, Mildred Bisbee, Dahlonega; brother, Randy Martin, Cleveland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Memorial services were held November 17, 2012 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.

Brenda Burton Rairigh

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mrs. Brenda Burton Rairigh, age 72 of Dahlonega. Mrs. Rairigh passed away Friday, November 9, 2012.

Memorial services were held Friday, November 23, 2012 from the funeral home chapel, with Kerri Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Rairigh was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Raymond Burton and Kathleen Tull Burton and is preceded in in death by her sisters Barbara Bruns and Kathleen Cavey.

During the 1960’s, Mrs. Rairigh was a Stewardess with American Airlines, later she taught Special Education at Saquaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona and retired from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado before she and her husband moved to Georgia in 2006.

Mrs. Rairigh in survived by her husband, Ronald Rairigh of Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Ridge and Heather Rairigh of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Caroline Rairigh and Cameron Rairigh; as well as her niece Tracy Wallace and husband Burt and nephews John Wallace, Ryan Wallace and Timothy Wallace

Andrew F. Yoder

Andrew F. Yoder died September 18, 2012 at the age of 75.

He was predeceased by his son Terrence Yoder M.D. He is survived by his loving wife, Michele of 50 years, and his daughters Elizabeth and Allison (Vitella) and Franco Vitella; three grandchildren, Andrew (Roberts) Isabella (Vitella) and Gianfranco (Vitella).

Andrew entered the U.S. Marine Corp in 1956 and was a graduate of John Carroll University. Andrew served as city council member in Maple Heights, Ohio. Andrew was District Manager at Warner Lamber and owned Blubear LLC, a Food Brokerage Firm in Northern Ohio. Andrew also was a part-time medical courier for PCG Labs.
