Jocelyn Cochran Kendall

Jocelyn Cochran Kendall, age 75, of Dahlonega, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at her residence.

Jocelyn is the daughter of the late O.L. and Elizabeth Cochran. She is also preceded in death by her husband, C.T. Kendall and granddaughter, Jill Kendall.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry (Charlotte) Kendall, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Stan (Robyn) Kendall, Flowery Branch, Ga.; son, Rick Kendall, Buford, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy (Johnny) Foster, Marietta, Ga.; Kelly (Allan) Wright, Dahlonega; daughter, Tracy Kendall, Dahlonega; brother, Marvin Cochran, Harlan, Ky.; sisters, Frances Beavers, Dalton, Ga.; Katy Bell, Acworth, Ga.; grandchildren, Allston Kendall, Sara Kendall, Kendall and Charter Foster, Allan-Michael and Zach Kendall, Miles and Jerry Kendall, Clent Blackwell, Natalie Kendall, Laura Snellgrove and Emily Wright; great-grandchildren, Marlee, Brady, Knox, Owen, Kayden, Slade, Bailey, Ellie, Emily and Colton.

Funeral services for Jocelyn were held Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Nimblewill Baptist Church in Dahlonega.

Rev. L.C. Bennett and Rev. Alan Swafford officiated.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Sebrena Jean Grizzle

Sebrena Jean Grizzle, age 44, of Armuchee, Ga., formerly of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga.

Mrs. Grizzle was preceded in death by her father, David Allen Boatfield.

She is survived by her husband, J.C. Grizzle, Armuchee, Ga.; mother, Patty Davis Boatfield, Dahlonega; son, Rodney Grizzle, Armuchee, Ga.; sisters, Staci Tanner and Charlotte Lowe, Dahlonega; nephews, Josh Lowe, Blake Lowe, Johnathan Lowe and Tyler Worthington, Dahlonega; two great-nieces and one great-nephew, and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Sebrena were held Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiated.

Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Lucille Hamilton

Miss Lucille Hamilton, age 98, of Dahlonega, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Gold City Convalescent Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, and one of the first residents to be admitted to the Gold City Convalescent Center, having lived there for 43 years. She had many, many friends who loved her dearly.

Miss Hamilton is survived by her cousin, Karen Stephens of Dahlonega, and an aunt, Clara Ballard of Chicago, Illinois.

Funeral services for Lucille were held Saturday, February 16 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. John Paul Webb and Rev. Susie Webb officiated.

Estelle G. Walker

Estelle G. Walker was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born November 30, 1921. She died at the family home on February 12, 2013 after a long and difficult struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Estelle was the daughter of the late Rev. Martin Grizzle and Minnie Ferguson Grizzle. She was preceded in death by her step-mother Jane Ash, her son and daughter, Marshall Walker and Wilma Walker Glymph Wehunt, and her husband Clifford Walker.

Estelle recognized the value of education and in 1966 earned her GED. She was employed by the Lumpkin County Mental Health Department for many years working with special needs adults. She and her husband were foster parents to three young ladies for several years.

She is survived by her son, Phillip H. Walker, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Charles Walker of Cleveland, Victor Glymph and Skye Glymph Chandler, both of Stockbridge, Ga.; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two special care givers, Pam Mimbs of Cleveland and Joan Walker Siemsen of Dahlonega.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Yahoola Baptist Church, Dahlonega. Reverends Donald Grizzle, Terry Head and Charles Walker, grandson, conducted the service. Pallbearers were all cousins of Estelle. She was laid to rest in the church cemetery between her daughter and husband.

Tommy C. King

Tommy C. King, age 69, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday February 17, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Born March 5, 1943 in Cornelia, Georgia to the late Ray and Eula Mae King, he had lived in Lumpkin County since 1990 having moved from Phoenix City, Alabama. Mr. King was formerly employed at Fort Benning after which he transferred to Camp Frank D. Merrell where he worked 15 years until his retirement. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era. A loving husband, daddy and grandfather, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Erica King; sister, Betty Pitts; and brother, Jimmy King.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Evelyn King, Dahlonega; daughters, Lynn Smith, Atlanta, Leah Smith, Dahlonega; grandsons, Eric Garrett, Evansville, Ind., Bobby Garrett, Evansville; sisters-in-law, Geneva Bearden, Dawsonville, Margaret Kennedy, Dawsonville and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park.

Lawrence Mason Walton

Lawrence Mason Walton. age 83, a resident of Lawrenceville, Ga. and formerly of Dahlonega, died Feb. 14, 2013.

Larry was born in Washington, DC to Lawrence Preston and Dorothy Mason Walton.

He graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS degree and joined the US Army after graduation. He achieved the rank of Captain and after active duty, remained in the US Army Reserves Military Police.

Larry’s first police job was with the Montgomery County, Maryland Police Department. After moving to Georgia, he worked as a Trust Officer at the First National Bank of Atlanta. He later went back to police work, and was employed by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s and Police Departments. While with Gwinnett County, he acted as the Public Information Officer. After moving to Dahlonega, he retired from Gwinnett County and joined the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. He raised funds for, and started, the Bike Patrol, part of the Community Oriented Policing Services. Larry retired from Lumpkin County in 2003.

While living in Dahlonega, Larry was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of having a small farm. He took pride in his Angus cattle, goats and his beloved donkey, Jessie. Larry enjoyed bagpipes, and at one time had been a member of an Atlanta marching band.

Larry is survived by sons, Lawrence Randolph Walton and wife Sylvia and Gary Pennell and wife Joyce; daughters Stephanie Anne Walton, Patricia Lynn Walton Spooner, and Victoria Lee Walton Wicker and husband Edward, and Laura Pennell Calvert and husband Greg. He has 10 grandchildren, Kathryn Ward-Walton, Jennifer James, Heather Ward- Walton, John Fogleman, Kaitlin Spooner, Julia Ward-Walton, Matthew Fogleman, Peter Wicker, Samantha Walton, and Olivia Wicker. He has one great-grandchild, Harper James.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Dahlonega Funeral Home.

Interment followed at Dahlonega Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be expressed online at dahlonegafuneralhome.com.

Lawrence Mason Walton. age 83, a resident of Lawrenceville, Ga. and formerly of Dahlonega, died Feb. 14, 2013.
