Dennis G. Richardson

Resident of Dahlonega

Dennis G. Richardson, age 68, of Dahlonega, Ga. passed away Sunday February 2, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a short illness.

Born October 20, 1945 in Mt. Vernon, Ill. to the late Gene and Vernetta Richardson, he had lived in Dahlonega for the past ten years having moved from Griffin, Ga. Dennis was a retired civil engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation with 34 years of service. For the past ten years he was the office manager for Amicalola Propane in Dawsonville, Ga. which is owned by his son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Kristin. Affectionally known as “Poppa” he was a loving husband who was also very devoted to his sons and especially his grandchildren. Dennis was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, gardener, and was an accomplished inventor.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jean Anglin Richardson, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Cathy Richardson, Lawrenceville, Jon Richardson and his fiancé, Lisa Harn, Griffin, Matt and Kristin Richardson, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Jordan Richardson, Donovan Richardson, Maya Richardson, William Richardson, Maddie Richardson, Mary Anglin Richardson, Reagan Richardson, Genevieve Richardson, Isaac Harn; special friend, Evelyn King; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Connie Richardson, Belle Rive, Ill.; sister, Denise Richardson, Port Charlotte, Fla.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Schofield and Rev. Richard Broom will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday, 9-11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mothers Morning Out Program at Dahlonega United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 455 Dahlonega, GA 30533.

Miles Albert Carney

Resident of Dahlonega

Miles Albert Carney, age 21, of Dahlonega passed away Monday morning, January 27, 2014 in a single vehicle accident in Dawson County. Miles attended Lumpkin County High School. He enjoyed working with anything that had an engine. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and playing with his daughter, Alyssa and nephew, Daniel. His big heart and great smile will be missed by all.

Miles is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Carney; parents, Stanley and Denise Carney of Dahlonega; girlfriend, Sara Davis of Dahlonega; sister, Corissa Carney of Dahlonega; brother, Rodney Carney of Murrayville; grandparents, Ronald and Geraldine Dorminey of Dawsonville, Evans and Norma Weber of Cumming; aunts and uncles, Sue and Edward Woody of Dahlonega, Mark and Itura Weber of Springfield Virginia, Deborah and Paul Ulerick of Twelve Mile, Indiana; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services were held Friday, January 31 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Dahlonega, Ga. Rev. Andrew Harwood officiated.

Chester Arthur Crowell

Resident of Dahlonega

Chester Arthur Crowell, Jr. passed away at the age of 93, on April 22, 2014, at his home in Dahlonega, Ga. following a battle with cancer.

Mr. Crowell was born and raised in Cordele, Ga. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers during WW2 in the Philippines and participated in the post war activities in Japan. Following the war, he attended and graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in architecture. He designed numerous schools and churches during his 41 years in his own business in Macon, Ga. He was a member of the Macon Lions Club for 33 years. In 1988, he retired and moved to Gainesville, Fla. where he lived for 28 years with his wife Billie Lowry Crowell. While in Gainesville, Fla., he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Gainesville Fine Arts Association, the Barber Gators, the Decrepit Birdmen, and the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed flying his own plane, painting, and wood craftsmanship.

In 2013, Mr. Crowell designed and built a home in Dahlonega on the farm of his youngest son, Tom.

Mr. Crowell was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Griffith Crowell and by his third wife, Billy Lowry Crowell.

Mr. Crowell is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, C. Arthur Crowell III of Macon, Ga., and Tom and Mary Kay Crowell of Dahlonega, Ga., two step sons and daughter-in-law, Dean Lowry, Frank and Midori Lowry and a step daughter, Katherine Tilley, all of Gainesville, Fla. In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren Chace, Amber and Ciera, three step grandchildren, Jonathon, Denise and Jack, and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Visitation is at 11 a.m., Service at 11:30 a.m., Reception at 12 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice of North East Georgia or the Lumpkin County Humane Society.

Mr. Herschel Wayne Dalton

Resident of Dahlonega

Mr. Herschel Wayne Dalton, age 90, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014.

Herschel was born on November 11, 1923 in Tabor, Iowa to the late William Dalton and Bernice Everham Dalton. In 1942, he graduated from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, Iowa, later attending Northwest Missouri State. Herschel entered the United States Navy where he served with honor in the South Pacific. Following his completion of his military service in 1946, Herschel began his career with the United States Postal Service, a career that would span from 1947 until his retirement in 1979.

Herschel moved to Dahlonega in 1984, where he was active as a Lifetime Member of the VFW as well as the American Legion Post 5533 of Dahlonega. In addition to his parents, Herschel is preceded in death by his brothers, Maurice Dalton, Clarence Dalton and Ralph Dalton as well as sisters, Katherine Dalton and Dorothy Dalton Efingham.

He is survived locally by his niece Victoria Dalton Loggins of Murrayville and nephew, Brian Dalton of Demorest. In addition, Herschel is survived by is brother, Harold Dalton as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at Tabor Cemetery in Tabor, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends was held at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, Iowa. Locally it is requested that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations be made to the Community Helping Place Food Bank, P.O.Box 712, Dahlonega, GA. 30533.

Mrs. Rosie Hyde Reeves

Resident of Dahlonega

Mrs. Rosie Hyde Reeves, age 89, of Dahlonega, Ga. died Wednesday, April 23, 2014.

Mrs. Reeves was born in Dawsonville, Ga. June 26, 1924. She lived in Lumpkin County for the past 16 years and was a former resident of Sandy Springs, Ga. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Rosie was the daughter of the late Jessie and Bessie Hyde and was also preceded in death by her husband, James Owen Reeves; and an infant son, James Owen Reeves Jr.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Mitch Phillips, Auburn, Ga., Cissy Reeves, Dahlonega, Ga., and Debbie and John Brannon, Newnan, Ga.; grandchildren, Adam, Amanda, Jimmy, Wade, Doug, and Mick. Several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.

In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Reeves was cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. Klate James Thomas Wehunt

Resident of Dahlonega

Mr. Klate James Thomas Wehunt, age 14, of Dahlonega, Ga., died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Egleston Children’s Health Care of Atlanta with his family by his side.

Klate was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was an 8th grade student at Lumpkin County Middle School.

Klate was a loving son, brother and friend to all he met. He was always generous and giving to others. He was a blessing to everyone and we can’t wait until the day we see him again. We know he is in heaven playing Xbox with all of his many friends and playing all the sports he has wanted to play. His breath is strong and his heart even stronger and every step he takes is a leap of joy. It was an honor that God chose us to be his parents. It was a blessing to be there when he left this world and entered into the presence of the Lord.

Klate is survived by his parents, J.T. and Shannen Wehunt; sister, Kre Wehunt; grandparents, Danny and Georgia McDonald of Murrayville, Ga., James Wehunt, Sr., Dahlonega, Ga., Eddie and Kay Puckett, Murrayville, Ga., Jeannie Byrd, Alpharetta, Ga.; aunts and uncles, John Daniel and Chelsea McDonald, Jonathan Stevens, Jesus and Lisa Shark; cousins, Zach and Sophia Montgomery and Megan Allison; and special friends, Joseph and Joshua Chastain.

Funeral services for Klate were held Friday, April 25, 2014 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel, Dahlonega, Ga. Al Waltz and John Daniel McDonald officiated and Houston Barber (Mr. B) read a special dedication. Interment followed in the Yellow Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Murrayville, Ga.
