Mrs. Ida Pauline “Polly” Harkins, age 65, of Dahlonega, died September 4, 2011, in Seneca, S.C. from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Mrs. Harkins was a native of Pickens, S.C. She had worked in housekeeping at several local nursing homes.

She was a member of Dahlonega Assembly of God.

Polly was the daughter of the late Dude and Evie Inez Denny Gambrell and was also preceded in death by brothers, Pelham Gambrell and Olan Gambrell; sister, Mary Jo Ross; and grandson, Thomas Harkins.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Austin Harkins, Dahlonega; children, Paul and Wanda Harkins, Dahlonega, Laney and Etta Harkins, Elberton, Ga., Tommy Harkins, Dahlonega, Joe and Julie Harkins, Elberton, Ga., Rita and David Cain, Dahlonega, Tammie and Bobby Champe, Dahlonega, Tina and Johnny Cunningham, Royston, Ga., Tonya and Carlos Satterfield, Powtan, Va., Venus Wilson, Sylva, N.C., Jeff Johnson; brother, Jack Gambrell, Liberty S.C.; sisters, Mildred Stancil, Sylva, N.C., Gaynell White, Oak Island, N.C. A total of 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives also survive.

A memorial service for Polly is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. James Wilbanks will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and immediately following the memorial service.

Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.
